East China (simplified Chinese: 华东; traditional Chinese: 華東; pinyin: Huádōng) is a geographical and a loosely-defined cultural region that covers the eastern coastal area of China. Although an intangible and loosely, for administrative and purposes, the region is by the of the People's Republic of China to include the provinces of (in alphabetical order) Anhui, parts of Fujian, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Shandong and Zhejiang, as well as the municipality of Shanghai. The PRC lays claim over the Taiwan Province and parts of Fujian (also spelt Fukien or Fuchien), which are also defined as part of eastern China by the PRC.
